We take a bizarre amount of reverb, thick bass attacks, dull drums, an occult atmosphere, dissonant riffs and a low death growl and you hear that Thaumaturgy is born! With the only achievement to date in 2021 an EP entitled Charnel Gnosis , we can now prepare for the first full-fledged album Tenebrous Oblations . The American influences are overrepresented on this forty minute disc. Add to that a sickening atmosphere that would fit in any good quality horror film. The originator of this barbaric music is unknown, but we read back in the promo that it concerns a single individual. Pretty sick performance I hear back with clear Incantation , also mentioned in the promoworship.

 
As expected, we mainly have to talk about the peristaltic guitar riff eruptions that are now and then very prominent. Often to make room for a short while for some fast, but measured drumming. The thick groove layers that make the whole, for example during Blood or Ageless Serpent,provided with some variation also enter into a trio with slamming drums and recalcitrant guitar screams. Not always tasty, but pretty hard. Sometimes it also needs a little soaking time before we can distinguish the perversions. So there are few clean moments on this sheet metal, let's say, almost none. That does not alter the fact that no attention has been paid to the sound adjustment. Don't expect raging lo-fi noise, but a characteristic mix of old school blubber and a pungent smelling sound transfer. The pounding during a song like Plaguearchon is so mean(d) that any poltergeist would give up immediately after a few hits on the wall while playing this record. And we like it that way!

An extra honorable mention for the closing  Withered Flesh Effigy is still in order. Tons of atmosphere are poured over the listener during the opening phase by an excruciatingly slow dissonant atmosphere setting, which is then completely smashed by maniacal blast beats. It is even possible to enjoy classic death metal with a lot of cymbals, which also has extreme moments with moody keyboards. What a dirty and menacing number!

Don't expect great innovations or work that lingers in the mind for days, but pure demonic death metal bombast in the margins of the Chilean Dominus Xul and the American Incantation . Connoisseurs know enough! If not, listen to the added album in its entirety. zwaremetalen
