Brutal death metal? Get a death metal sound, amp it up and then sing about nothing but gore, torture and murder? Job done. Bands that go head to head to see who can outdo each other at being the most brutal or controversial. The last two years has seen Vulnificus throw their hat into the brutal death metal ring and this year has the American band returning with their latest EP ‘Invocation’.

With ‘Invocation’, Vulnificus picks up exactly where that debut EP left off last year with an enjoyable five tracks clocking in at just over 17 minutes. However, the main issue with what Vulnificus offer with ‘Invocation’ is the production. The mixing presented her is a little overwhelming and maybe a little amateurly delivered, for example, the vocals are far too prominent in the mix whilst the snare drum cracks the listener in the head like a baseball bat with each hit. Sadly, it is this which actually sullies the whole EP. There is nothing wrong with the vocals of Eston Browne, they are as brutal as they need to be, but they are mixed so high, they make this a tough order. However, it is easy to see what ‘Invocation’ is trying to achieve and any fan of Deeds of Flesh, Defeated Sanity and Mortician will enjoy what it is going on here.

Truthfully, ‘Invocation’ is not the best EP but there are some real foundations here and they are solid. This means that Vulnificus can build on this in the very near future. - metal-digest

Short Bio: VULNIFICUS is a dynamic duo surfacing the roots of brutal death metal from the United States. Formed in the fall of 2021 by W. Sherels - All Instruments (Urotherapy, Epidermolysis) and E.Browne - Vocals (Abolishing the Ignominious), VULNIFICUS attempts to push death metal back to its extreme limits with their debut "INNOMINATION", released November 26, 2021. INNOMINATION was recorded, mixed and mastered at Demolition Studios by W. Sherels with additional recording/mixing of vocals by E. Browne at BWNTWN STN. Drawing comparisons to old Cannibal Corpse, Condemned, Defeated Sanity, Mortician and others, VULNIFICUS signed a deal with New Standard Elite and shortly released their debut single "Induced Rampage". After the overwhelming feedback of "INNOMINATION", VULNIFICUS began to record the follow up to their debut EP the very next month, titled "INVOCATION". Completed at Demolition Studios again, VULNIFICUS blast, grind and shred their way with 5 tracks of audio devastation blending influences from the past and present. Scheduled to release June 2022.
