“An album title like Entrenched In The Faults Of The Earth calls to mind larger-than-life images, thus it’s fitting that blackened funeral doom collective BARREN ALTAR have aimed high for their debut. Smoothly bridging crushing funeral doom and mournful black metal, BARREN ALTAR flip between the two styles throughout Entrenched…" -- Decibel
Entrenched In The Faults Of The Earth is the debut full-length from Bay Area blackened funeral doom legion BARREN ALTAR. Lauded as, “one of the most harrowing, emotive and skillful plays on blackened death-doom you’ve heard,” in an early review by Overdrive Magazine, and a, “compelling and captivating slab of underground misery,” by Wonderbox Metal, the record was captured by Greg Wilkinson (Graves At Sea, Necrot, Vastum) at Earhammer Studios in Oakland, California and is available on CD (limited to 300 copies) and digitally at the official, BARREN ALTAR Bandcamp page at THIS LOCATION.
In conjunction with the release of Entrenched In The Faults Of The Earth, BARREN ALTAR will take on a near-two-week Live For Never West Coast tour with additional dates to be announced in the coming weeks.

Forged in 2013 with the intention of blending depressive funeral doom with soul-crushing black metal elements, BARREN ALTAR has spent the last five years establishing a formidable presence in the Bay Area music scene via two ferocious EPs and a split seven-inch, numerous crushing live performances, and a deep-seated DIY ethic.
“Pain is glorious, torment is beautiful, sorrow is golden, riffs drenched in dirge, mourning is solace – just some of the thoughts that come to mind as I listen to the new BARREN ALTAR LP Entrenched In The Faults Of The Earth…” — Cvlt Nation
“…a compelling and captivating slab of underground misery…” — Wonderbox Metal
“It’s got the melancholy pull of funeral doom (the guitar harmonies on ‘The Great Awakening Of Death’ are marvelous) with the hateful venom of black metal. A melodic purpose squeezes its way into a few intros, a form of dynamics that would be pleasant if not for the cacophony surrounding it.” — Heavy Music HQ
