I think it's the first time in about 35 years of Metal "militancy", that I come across a Metal band that comes from Cuba; it is therefore with great pleasure that I present Claim HG, a group about which not much is known, except that it was formed by four friends (but on metal-archives.com the formation is a quintet ....) and that from 2006 until this year they were active simply as "Claim" (making only a demo in 2008), to which only recently the suffix "HG" was added. As often happens, the terms of comparison with which they were presented are airborne: Metallica, Megadeth and Testament were indicated, but in these six tracks that I got to hear there is literally nothing that is comparable to such sacred monsters of the Californian Bay Area. There are some distant references to Thrash (especially in the attitude), but basically the sound of the Cubans is a rocky Heavy Metal, quite full of groove and even in step with the times, without the influences of NWOBHM or something old school. The debut album is called "In your face" and has a fairly minimal artwork; as mentioned the songs are six for a total duration of just under 29 minutes. It should be noted that in the files I received was also included a second and short version of the opener "The call", called "Single cut", which I think is the finished variant on the homonymous single released in February, but unfortunately even here the scarcity of the information provided does not help. The sound of the group sees the guitars as the protagonist, well supported by the bass that sometimes carves out spaces as a protagonist; the drums give often sparkling rhythms and make everything pleasant to listen to. To characterize everything there is the voice of the screamer David Shoazemed who screams his anger in the microphone seamlessly, but who rarely engages even in more "moderate" parts, demonstrating a good versatility and expressive capacity. Listening, as mentioned, was not at all unpleasant, indeed these six pieces were able to give me a good energy, so as to make me always want to listen to them again, a feature that is certainly a point in favor. Surely this "In your face" will not go down in the history of Metal music, nor will it allow Claim HG to get out of the underground, but it is undoubtedly a more than valid debut album.
