On The Loose - Midnight - Reviewed At Soundmagnet ! Check it out here at this link: https://www.soundmagnet.eu/on-the-loose-midnight-album-review/
On The Loose was originally conceived as a one-man show by Portuguese guitarist Marco Marouco. The music was planned as epic doom metal with orchestral arrangements, but after several months of futile waiting for the orchestration, the musician decided to take a different path.
Together with fellow musicians, the guitarist has now released a very old-school album, the music on Midnight sounds like a mix of Candlemass and Iron Maiden. In terms of content, each of the seven songs tells a story that is based on one of the seven deadly sins.
Candle Mass with the Iron Virgin
Singer Flávio Lino sounds like a slightly lower tuned version of Bruce Dickinson. This is meant as a compliment, because his voice fits perfectly with the music. This in turn consists largely of sluggish guitar riffs, harsh drums and atmospheric sound passages.
The opener and title track Midnight illustrates the concept of On The Loose very well. The song builds up slowly and with clear references to the 1980s and 1990s, with melancholy and heavy metal attitude roughly balanced. Or to put it another way: this is music to close your eyes and sink into it. You can find the song HERE.
The best of the UK and the far north
The conveyed epicness runs through the entire album. Musically, few experiments are dared, but old heroes are paid homage without forgetting their own identity. The British metal accents and the Nordic doom passages harmonize perfectly with each other and thus speak for themselves anyway.
The album is a bit of a surprise, because this sound is generally not associated with sunny Portugal. In any case, Marco Marouco and his colleagues have done a great job and worked out the melancholic essence of classic doom metal without drifting into tearful realms.
Conclusion
Midnight is a tribute to old heroes and an exciting mixture between heavy metal and doom metal. On The Loose understand their craft and work out the attitude of these genres, creating rousing song constellations. 7.5 / 10 - Soundmagnet
Release Date: March 20th, 2022
FFO: Candlemass, Sorcerer, Crypt Sermon
With the pandemic no music was allowed on stages so after some personal decisions I had time to do MY album.
I also play in 3 bands: Extreme Unction, Els Focs Negres and Perpetrator, also played with heavy metal maniacs SABATAN and satanic speed metalers OMISSION from Spain did the solos for 3 DECAYED albums and was a live session guitar player for FILII NIGRANTIUM INFERNALIUM.
I wanted to do an instrumental album with an orchestra, all the music that you will listen was supposed to be instrumental, but after some months waiting for the orchestrations, from 3 different guys I decided to ask my friend Lino who also sings in a tribute Iron Maiden band Iron Beast and also with the UK based band AIRFORCE to sing in the album.
The album will be released on March 20, 2022, the next equinox with or without a label. Because I want that date and that´s it, this is a one-man project but if there is help from the public this might be a live band. I invited João Ventura from THE LIMIT / Dawnrider to play the drums and asked my friend Rick Thor to write some wonderful lyrics, all the artwork photos taken by me.
Musically expect a mix of Candlemass and Iron Maiden , about the lyrics, are all small little stories each has a concept that leads to a deadly sin. The album has 7 songs 7 deadly sins
