It has been a while since I reviewed this type of Metal. As you may know, it’s not really my favorite, yet (almost) every time I play it, I am blown away by its grandeur and brutal fragility. Post Lutum (PL) understands this concept all too well. A one-man band/experiment/experience named Ian Goetchius, PL is an exquisite combination of Doom and the dire. A masterful melding of dark and light and tortured beauty, ‘Acceptance’ is tremendously effective.

Musically, it is perfect. Yes, I said it. Perfect. It is densely layered and oppressive, filled with achingly magnificent swells while simultaneously carving the soul. ‘Acceptance’ is musical duality personified, and I cannot get enough.

Vocals are a growling rasp, straight from the gut. Not really my cup of tea (not a big fan, remember?), but perfectly suited for conveying Goetchius’ poignant lyrics. Like many in the Black/Doom Metal world, Goetchius’ lyrics are pure poetry. Filled with introspection, they offer a sense of catharsis and are dark as Hell.

I don’t know if this is Goetchius’ life’s work, a side project, a labor of love (or despair), or what. What is apparent is he is deeply in touch with his feelings and has the ability to bare them on a soundscape that is both bleak and beautiful. Highly engaging; highly recommended. - Metal Digest

Post Luctum is the moniker behind artist and songwriter Ian Goetchius, a musician with a focus on creating dark and haunting doom and melodic death metal-inspired songs.

Hailing from California, MD, Post Luctum came to life in 2019, allowing Ian to explore his creativity as a one-man project. His goal was to combine ominous atmospheric sound and dark textures with the impact of death-metal. To top it off, his songs are also an outlet for him to explore various lyrical themes, including isolation and depression, as well as the paranormal and consideration about the afterlife and the meaning of life and death.

Post Luctum’s music is a great example of his sonic vision, marking a really unique step forward for this artist, whose sound is becoming increasingly more personal and defined, one release at a time. The new EP titled "Acceptance" releases August 27th on Bandcamp, and all other major streaming platforms.
