Rock musicians have always reveled in the image of being trouble, wild-eyed loners living in the shadows of society, mad, bad and dangerous to know. But the reality is that, more often than not, it is all really an image, a stage persona which helps promote the music. But the Swiss band Shortcut 2 Infinity sound like the real deal and that makes for a refreshing change.
“I Know” is street rock at its finest, at its edgiest, at its most raw; a blend of low-slung classic rock and roll swagger mixed in with the smell of gasoline, blood, sweat and alcohol, brooding and bruised and bloodied. It isn’t so much the song itself which is the revelation here, it’s the attitude and swagger with which they deliver it. You may have heard better crafted songs, seen defter musicians, appreciated more adventurous approaches, but you wouldn’t have heard much which is as truly in your face, as confrontational, as honest, as this.
Image stumbling into the wrong bar and getting into a fight with a denim-clad biker whilst his friends cheer and shout, beer is flung around and Harley’s are turning donuts in the street out front. This is the musical equivalent of that.
