Though we’ve been negatively impacted by the lack of traditional live events, Decibel has other revenue streams to help us navigate pandemic times. However, virtually every member of the fragile live music ecosystem—detailed eloquently by Sean Frasier in this month’s special report on a the impact of a full year of the pandemic-induced concert blackout—aren’t nearly as fortunate.
With vaccine distribution on the rise and confirmed virus cases falling, there is hope on the horizon. But many in our community need help now. To that end, Decibel will donate 100 percent of the profits for individual sales of this issue to PIVOT (Philadelphia Independent Venues Organizing Together)’s soon-to-be launched campaign targeted specifically towards independent music industry gig workers in our hometown.
So, when you’re reading about the making of My Dying Bride’s goth-infused 1995 classic The Angel and the Dark River or spinning the flexi disc featuring an exclusive new song from reunited Dutch death/doom heroes Celestial Season, you’re not just biding time until we can all raise fists at a show. You’re helping a few others do the same.
