This was a response to the commercialised Black Metal that was then beginning to take a foothold. Old Forest's debut was a return to the uncompromising anti-commercial music which could be found on their favourite albums (those being the early releases of Emperor, Burzum, Satyricon, Gehenna...) The album was universally derided by the mainstream metal press, even gaining "1/10" in glossy magazine Terrorizer (a much coveted accreditation at the time amongst the band). However, amongst the true fans of early 90s Black Metal, the release became something of a collectible item. In the following years, the band were approached by numerous small labels to release the album on vinyl ; the original label ignored all requests. Therefore, in 2019, the band decided to re-record the album in its entirety, with the original drummer, using the same studio & equipment as the first time, and bring control 'Back Into the Old Forest' The music is of a low-fi mid-paced Black Metal style, simplistic melodies are interwoven with low-fi keys, and howling vocals. It is, ostensibly, a tribute to those recordings which are close to the hearts of the band - whilst retaining the all-important ethic of pre-commercial Black Metal. The album will be released digitally / streaming on 19/04/20 and on Digipack CD on 03/05/20 via Death To Music productions, with the band retaining full control. The CD version contains 2 BONUS TRACKS (covers of Burzum's ' Nar Himmelen Klarner' & Gehenna's 'Shivering Voice of the Ghost') It will also be released on vinyl later in the year...
