FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Canadian experimental heavy music force Post Death Soundtrack returns with a massive new statement in the form of a double album, BARREN MOTHER OF ALL , releasing July 14, 2026. The record continues the project’s reputation for pushing far beyond genre lines while digging deeper into themes that are as heavy as the sound itself.
This release marks the third chapter in a trilogy of 30-song works, following GRIST and IN ALL MY NIGHTMARES I AM ALONE . Across all three records, the project has carved out a distinct space where industrial noise, post-punk tension, darkwave atmosphere, doom weight, and dystopian psychedelia all collide without asking permission.
BARREN MOTHER OF ALL does not play it safe. It leans hard into uncomfortable territory, exploring collapse, addiction, trauma, spiritual crisis, and the uneasy condition of modern existence. The album title itself draws from philosophical inspiration tied to Nisargadatta Maharaj, whose concept of existence as “the child of a barren woman” helped shape the record’s central identity.
This is music built for confrontation, not comfort.
Sonically, the album pulls from industrial grit, witch house haze, gothic rock drama, post-punk edge, noise abrasion, 80s horror soundtrack tension, and a distorted sense of melody that keeps everything just barely balanced on the edge of chaos.
As creator Stephen James Moore puts it in spirit, this is not a filtered version of reality. It is the raw feed.
Spanning 35 tracks, the album moves through short shocks, sprawling cuts, and reinterpretations of iconic material, including covers of Beastie Boys – Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun , Tom Waits – The Ocean Doesn't Want Me Today , PJ Harvey – Long Snake Moan , and Rage Against the Machine – Settle For Nothing , all filtered through the project’s bleak and experimental lens.
Original cuts like “Queen Bee,” “No Loss,” “Red Robin,” “Chaos, My Love,” and “Truth is in Demand” sit alongside live recordings, bonus tracks, and fragmented pieces that feel intentionally unstable, like transmissions from a collapsing signal.
Early listener responses across the music community have already started forming a split conversation, ranging from praise for its darkwave authenticity and 2000s underground atmosphere to debate around lyrical content and intensity.
Some listeners are calling it a return to true underground dark aesthetics, while others admit the record is intentionally difficult to fully decode on first listen. That tension seems to be exactly the point.
Post Death Soundtrack continues to operate as a constantly shifting outlet for heavy ideas and heavier sound design. The project blends philosophy, emotional extremity, and experimental production into a catalog that refuses to sit still long enough to be categorized cleanly.
This new double album pushes that identity even further, embracing discomfort, distortion, and artistic risk as core principles rather than side effects.
