Christchurch, New Zealand – New Zealand death metal stalwarts Plague of the Fallen are charging into 2025 with a renewed focus on crushing new music and expanding their global reach, following a string of successful releases and high-profile support slots.

Formed in Christchurch in 2007 with the mission of delivering “punishing and vicious Death Metal,” Plague of the Fallen quickly carved out a reputation by playing countless local and national shows. Early achievements include receiving Musicianship and People’s Choice awards in the New Zealand band competition Rockquest , and opening for renowned New Zealand acts such as Ulcerate , 8 Foot Sativa , Sinate , and Dawn of Azazel . Their debut EP, Unleash the Vermin , and single The God of Depravity , both released in 2011, set the stage for a promising career before a temporary hiatus in 2015.

A Vicious Rebirth and Modern Evolution

Re-emerging in 2018 with a revitalized lineup, Plague of the Fallen brought a “renewed passion” to their craft, evolving into a modern take on death metal while steadily growing a dedicated fanbase across New Zealand. Their post-hiatus output emphasizes “well-written songs with memorable structures and thought-out lyrics,” without sacrificing the “relentless sound they have become renowned for.”

Recent releases highlighting this evolution include singles Enemies of Existence and Fulfill Our Need for Suffering , the EP Bleeding and Vehement , the full-length album Amongst the Rats , and 2024’s latest single, Lord of Famine.

Touring Success and Community Focus

Plague of the Fallen’s commitment to producing international-quality music and visuals, in collaboration with partners like Demigod Recordings and Whisko Creative , has unlocked significant live opportunities. They’ve shared stages with international acts such as Skeletal Remains and Defeated Sanity , and toured nationally with Ulcerate , Cattle Decapitation , and Suffocation . Beyond supporting major acts, the band has headlined numerous shows and runs Dogfest , a charity event raising funds for local animal rescues.

Looking Ahead to 2025

"Leading into 2025, Plague of the Fallen continues to craft music for their second full-length album," the band states, as they aim to expand their international presence with festival appearances and tours, while “showcasing their dominance on stages across New Zealand.”
