The song became an MTV-staple and helped to establish the band in the mainstream. Manson often comes up with song inspiration in his dreams, but the idea to cover this song came from his first acid trip, according to his autobiography, The Long Hard Road Out of Hell. He says that he hallucinated a "slower, meaner" version of the dance hit playing, sung in his voice. The earliest performance of the song dates back to June 1, 1994.
