Here are the top news of the week, key numbers, and insights you shouldn’t miss!
1) Sonu Nigam Lease Deal
Indian singer Sonu Nigam has leased a 4,257 sq ft BKC commercial space with rent rising from ₹19 lakh to ₹23.15 lakh over five years, totalling ₹12.62 crore, alongside a ₹90 lakh deposit and ₹3.27 lakh stamp duty.
2) Supreme Court GST Exemption Ruling
The Supreme Court upheld Karnataka HC’s ruling exempting GST on leasing a 42-room residential property used as a hostel, noting that imposing 18% GST would burden students and professionals and defeat the legislative intent behind the residential-use exemption.
3) RBI Regulatory Amendments
The Reserve Bank issued amendments to the Large Exposures Framework and 10 credit-information reporting rules, mandating stronger concentration-risk monitoring, frequent CIR reporting, and harmonised norms for jewellers under the 2025 Credit Facilities Amendment Directions.
4) RBI Repo Rate Cut
The RBI cut the policy repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.25% after a December 3–5 MPC review, citing strong 8.2% GDP growth and record-low 0.25% inflation, aiming to support liquidity and momentum.
5) Housing Affordability Report
Colliers India reports affordability improving sharply as India’s Price-to-Income ratio fell from 88.5 in 2010 to 45.3 in 2025, with Ahmedabad at 19.8 and Hyderabad at 16.3 emerging as the most budget-friendly housing markets.
