With an amazing collection of capacitors at Falcon Capacitor, you need to look for the right ones. Each capacitor serves a different purpose. They are manufactured for different tasks.
One such capacitor is an electrolytic motor capacitor. One of the most commonly used capacitors is used in a variety of equipment, tools, and machines.
So, if you know a little more about this capacitor, read further.
An electrolytic motor capacitor is used for creating a rotating magnetic field. Capacitors are generally energy storing devices. The energy gets released either all at once or at designated intervals in order to keep a machine functioning.
An electrolytic motor capacitor is commonly used in devices and machines where rotation is required. It alters the current to one or more windings of a single-phase altering-current induction motor in order to create a rotating magnetic field.
You may have seen motor capacitors all around. If you haven’t, then look around because they are one of the most commonly used capacitors in daily use machines and tools.
There are two types of motor capacitors, start capacitors and run capacitors.
Start Capacitors
The motor start capacitors are used at the starting phase of motors. They are disconnected from the rotor once they reach their pre-set speed(usually 75% of the maximum speed of a specific motor).
Motor start capacitors usually have a capacitance value of 70 µF. They come in varieties of voltage ratings, each depending on its application. These capacitors allow a motor to be cycled off and on rapidly.
Run Capacitors
A necessity in some single-phase AC electric motors. Motor run capacitors are used to create a rotating magnetic field while the motor is running. They are specially designed for continuance performance.
These are usually polypropylene film capacitors. They remain energized whenever the motor is running. Its capacitance value is usually lower than motor start capacitors in the range of 1.5 µF to 100 µF.
Although both start capacitors and run capacitors are motor capacitors and share some similarities, there is a vast difference between them. For starters, motor start capacitors carry a higher capacitance than motor run capacitors. It provides a much-needed push to the motor, which is required for the initial start.
On the other hand, a motor run capacitor doesn’t have a higher capacitance, and it is required to keep a motor up and running. It provides power to the motor, and it is used to maintain a charge. Sometimes dual-run motor capacitors are used to power a motor.
In the absence of a start capacitor, a motor will not start and will just hum. While if the run capacitor is not there, a motor won’t be able to run smoothly and continuously. In any case, both capacitors are very much important, and they both need to be of the highest quality.
Now you know a lot about electrolytic motor capacitors. So you can choose the right ones, and Falcon Capacitor is the perfect destination for you.
