Citizens Divided Over October 10 Protest Calls and Police Warnings | Complete Analysis | Vajirao & Reddy
A protest has been called for October 10, 2026 in Delhi over demands related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the Election Commission. The situation has led to divided opinions among residents as Delhi Police has issued warnings and advisories.
In this video, Vajirao & Reddy Institute - India's Top Potential Training Institute for IAS - provides a neutral and comprehensive analysis important for UPSC Current Affairs.
What is happening?
1. The Protest Call: Several youth and workers' organisations have called for a protest on October 10 demanding removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and suspension of SIR process. They are conducting door-to-door campaigns in slum settlements and among daily-wage earners, domestic workers and factory workers to raise awareness about SIR and possible deletion of names from electoral rolls.
2. Police Response & Section 163 BNSS: Delhi Police has held meetings in colleges, universities, PG accommodations and made public announcements in Old Delhi markets and mosques. Under Section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 - which empowers an Executive Magistrate to issue urgent orders to maintain public order and prevent unlawful assembly - police has advised residents not to gather unnecessarily and not to respond to provocative messages.
3. Public Reaction: Some shopkeepers fear action and have been advised against bulk orders for protesters. Some Residents' Associations state that peaceful protest is a democratic right. Concerns also remain over heavy police deployment and possible transport and communication restrictions.
4. Demands: Suspension of SIR, re-verification of deleted voter names, removal of CEC, and re-election in affected states as demanded by some groups. Campaigns are reportedly being held across 13 states.
