Cabinet Approves Integrated Transport And Logistics Authority (ITLA) - Big Decision for Infrastructure! | UPSC Current Affairs 2026 On 6th Oct 2026, Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi approved setting up of Integrated Transport & Logistics Authority (ITLA) as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). Announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw - ITLA will be the National Apex Institution for integrated transport and logistics planning. Why ITLA Needed? To address long-standing challenges of fragmented planning across multiple ministries - MoRTH, Railways, Ports Shipping, Civil Aviation, etc. Logistics cost in India is 13-14% of GDP vs 8% global avg. If GDP grows 7%, logistics requirement grows 10%. Need unified planning! What will ITLA Do? 5 Key Mandates: 1. National Transport Master Plan: Prepare comprehensive long-term plan with horizon of 10 years, 15 years, even 30 years covering Roads, Railways, Ports & Shipping, Civil Aviation, Inland Waterways, Coastal Shipping, Urban Mobility & Logistics. 2. Evaluate Short-term Plans: Review 5-year sectoral plans and annual plans of transport ministries to ensure consistency with Master Plan and promote Multi-Modal Integration. 3. Technical Appraisal: Technical appraisal of all Central Govt infra projects costing Rs 500 Crore or more. (Financial appraisal continues via existing mechanisms) 4. Monitoring & Issue Resolution: Monitor implementation of Rs 500 cr+ projects, provide a coordinated platform to resolve bottlenecks. 5.
