Description
India has firmly rejected Pakistan's allegations that it deliberately caused flooding in Pakistan's Punjab province by increasing the flow of the Chenab River. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) clarified that the rise in water levels was a natural result of heavy monsoon rainfall in the upper catchment areas near Jammu and not due to any upstream intervention. India also reiterated that it will continue sharing high-flood data with Pakistan on humanitarian grounds through diplomatic channels whenever required, despite the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) remaining in abeyance after the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack.
In this video, understand the complete issue, India's official response, the current status of the Indus Waters Treaty, flood data sharing between India and Pakistan, and why this development is important for UPSC Prelims, Mains (International Relations & Geography), and other competitive examinations.
