Description
Sitara Saleem, a 1-year-old girl from Multan, had been struggling with a serious health condition since birth. She frequently experienced shortness of breath and chest discomfort, making even simple activities like feeding and crying challenging. During these episodes, her lips and skin would turn bluish due to low oxygen levels in her blood. She also remained weak and tired most of the time, preventing her from growing and developing like other children of her age. Determined to find the cause of her condition, Sitara's parents consulted a doctor for a detailed evaluation. After undergoing diagnostic tests and a thorough examination, she was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). To correct the defects and restore healthy blood flow, the doctor recommended Total Correction through open-heart surgery.
Unfortunately, the cost of the surgery was far beyond the family's financial means. Sitara lives in a rented house with her parents and two siblings in Multan. Her father works as a driver and is the sole earning member of the family, bringing home only PKR 25,000 per month. His limited income is spent on house rent, groceries, utility bills, and daily needs of the family. Hoping to save their daughter's life, Sitara's parents approached Transparent Hands for assistance. After reviewing her medical reports and assessing the family's financial condition, her case was registered for treatment.
On June 4, 2026, Sitara was admitted to the Ittefaq Hospital Trust in Lahore. Her open-heart surgery was successfully performed by Dr. Asim Khan on June 5, 2026. The procedure repaired the structural defects in her heart and helped restore proper blood circulation. After receiving post-operative care and close medical monitoring, Sitara was discharged in stable condition on June 10, 2026.
Filled with gratitude, Sitara's father shared:
"Every day, it was heartbreaking to see our daughter struggle to breathe and become exhausted so easily. We knew she needed surgery, but affording such an expensive treatment was impossible for us. Your generosity gave our daughter a chance to live a healthier life. We will always be thankful for your kindness and support."
Today, Sitara is recovering steadily and moving towards a brighter future. The successful surgery has corrected her heart defects, enabling her to grow with new hope and improved health. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to you and the Pakistan Children's Heart Foundation (PCHF) for making this life-changing treatment possible.
