Description
Sawera Rizwan, an 8-year-old girl from Kasur, had been struggling with shortness of breath and chest discomfort since birth. Unlike other children of her age, Sawera suffered from poor weight gain, weakness, and fatigue, leaving her parents deeply worried about her future. Seeking answers, her parents took her to a nearby hospital, where she underwent detailed examinations and diagnostic tests. The doctor diagnosed her with a Large Perimembranous Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), Right Ventricular Outflow Tract (RVOT) Obstruction, and Right Coronary Cusp (RCC) Prolapse with Aortic Regurgitation (AR). To save her life and ensure healthy development, the doctor strongly recommended a Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV) Repair.
However, the cost of this critical procedure was far beyond the family’s financial capacity. Sawera lives in a rented house with her parents and two siblings. Her father, a daily wage laborer, earns only PKR 30,000 per month. His limited income barely covers their house rent, food, and other basic needs, leaving the family helpless when it comes to affording life-saving surgery. During their moment of despair, they reached out to Transparent Hands for assistance. After listening to their concerns, we registered Sawera’s case.
On June 22, 2025, she was admitted to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital. The next day, Dr. Salman Ahmad Shah successfully performed the Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV) Repair. The surgery went smoothly, and after proper post-operative monitoring, Sawera was discharged in stable condition on June 25, 2025.
With relief and joy, her parents shared:
“Our daughter can finally breathe and move like other children. We are grateful to you for your immense support during our difficult time. Your generosity has given our daughter a healthy future, and we will always remember this kindness.”
Now, Sawera enjoys a healthier childhood, free from the constant fatigue and breathlessness that once limited her life. Her family is extremely thankful to you and the Pakistan Children's Heart Foundation (PCHF) for making her surgery possible and healing her heart defects.
