Description
Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is a common eye infection, currently viral in Pakistan. Symptoms include:
Irritation
Redness
Discharge
The disease inflames the conjunctiva, the topmost layer of the eye. Causes include allergic reactions, infection, and irritation.
Treatment depends on the type of conjunctivitis. Bacterial conjunctivitis, the most common type in Pakistan, usually resolves on its own in 1-2 weeks. However, doctors may recommend cleaning the eyes with cold water to relieve irritation.
To prevent conjunctivitis, wash your hands regularly, avoid touching your eyes, and if using contact lenses, follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning them. Do not share contact lenses with others and maintain a safe distance from people with conjunctivitis.
If you have conjunctivitis, avoid touching your unaffected eye and wash your hands frequently to prevent the spread of the infection.
