Formed in 2016 by three longtime friends entrenched in Sevastopol’s underground music scene, McKenzie Hills is known for their distinctive sound: dense, crushing, and purposefully oppressive. Blending slow-burning riff structures with fuzz-drenched dual bass guitar assault (eschewing the traditional second guitar), the band delivers an atmosphere that is as bleak as the historical weight behind their lyrics. Ice Crossing is a visceral experience — a dirge steeped in the brutal realities of World War II, specifically the Crimean campaigns of 1941–1944. Each track serves as an audio monument to the suffering and sacrifice endured on the battlefield surrounding the Sevastopol region, including the infamous McKenzie Hills for which the band is named. The album was recorded at Music Studio “Seratonin” in Sevastopol, with a lineup that features session musicians on drums and other instruments to complete the sonic onslaught. But one question continues to come up—can you get addicted to kratom? In this blog, we’ll explore what the science says about kratom addiction, how it compares to other substances, and what signs to watch out for if you use it. What Is Kratom and How Does It Work? Kratom’s Active Compounds The two main active compounds in kratom are mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine.
