Tagging themselves goth metal, cybergoth, unpop rock, Dead Friends Forever are a Malaysian quintet, basing their whole mission upon hating the whole of humanity, willing artificial intelligence to synthesise with humans and attempting to bring down the mainstream music scene. ‘You’ve Heard Of BFF. Now Here’s Some DFF’ is their newly released 5 track EP. You can also check out their video, on YouTube.
Whatever That Bleeds – Introing on a Twilight Zone, Star Trek-esque sci-fi section, complete with atrocious vocals and not much else, but extraneous noise. Coming across as a cacophony of random sound effects, admittedly, there’s some melody in the riffs, but it just seems like a comedy band, purposely distorting any hint of musicality, for its own sake.
Eagle (Abba Cover) – Slightly more synth heavy, but similarly inept intro. Even in the depths of psychedelic drug abuse, most artists would be hard pressed to reach this level of vocal ineptitude. The accompaniments aren’t much better. Vague collection of tinny, empty sounds. Perhaps the constant flat vocals are deliberate, but that would just further underline the sheer pointlessness of this band. A background gremlin mutters indecipherable noises, as the clatter of directionless, unspecified noise surrounding it drones on.
Let’s Live It Right! – Ear piercing riffs shriek into your ears, before mechanical lawnmower sounds join in, with those horrifically flattened unvocal vocals. Frankly, it’s painful aural torture. Vague synths surround the rest. Nothing here resembling any sense of artistry, musicality or hope. It does seem to echo Babylon Zoo’s ‘Spaceman’, in parts, but it’s nowhere near enough to compensate for the hell that is this ‘song’. The percussion’s going nowhere and the end brings relief.
Holographic Cemetery – Similarly chaotic intro, without any clear direction or purpose. Flattened tones, in every sense. It hurts my musical sensibilities to listen. Not even the schlockiest of horror movies produce anything this incompetent. Frankly, it’s insulting to the scene.
Holographic Cemetery Demo Version – A piano intro’s, with creepy flat tones, joined by an untuned guitar, before the same flat vocals enter. It’s physically and cognitively painful. The piano attempts some semblance of melody, but sadly, fails. This is just a mess of incessant distortion. Hard to see the point. Nothing but chaos.
Overall – Why? Just why? Where do you even begin to contemplate the sheer pointless hell that is DFF? If this is anything other than deliberate distortion and comedic hopelessness, then the music industry’s doomed! Not worthy of any more explanation than that. Easily, the worst band ever! - Jenny Tate

D.F.F. (short for Dead Friends Forever) five dead end, fun loving neet that went to Wuhan, China back in 2019 (using money they got from selling things on Craigslist) for some China Dolls and came back in body bags (due to eating some exotic soup because of a stupid dare). They miraculously returned to life and decided to form a rock band with the intention of destroying the mainstream music industry, annoy the living daylight out of Rock/Metal elitists, morbidly obese K-Pop fans, nigga booty wankers, Fascist Mommy's Boys, self-righteous feminists suffering from God Complex, millennials and zoomers with boomer/gender issues, militant vegans, etc and maybe to buy spare (organic or prosthetic) body parts. Loves the smell of rotting flesh and embraces the Human/AI Synthesis concept with a vengeance. They hope to get a recording contract real soon, cut an album, go on tour and screw every women/men/goats they can find (before they became too decomposed to do anything). Enjoy the stench!
