Description
"Overneath the Path of Misery" is the fourth song on Marilyn Manson's eighth studio album Born Villain. The song first appeared in the Born Villain trailer released on September 1, 2011. The title of the song was initially thought to be "No Reason" due to the amount of times the phrase is repeated throughout the song, though Marilyn Manson confirmed later in 2011 at The Path of Misery art exhibition that the song's title was in fact, "Overneath the Path of Misery."
The recurring phrase "no reason" may have derived from its use in the 2010 film Rubber, which Manson has called his favorite film of the year.
Manson got a tattoo of the words "No Reason" shortly after the release of Born Villain, directly above his Spiral Heart tattoo on his left wrist.
The beginning of the song which is spoken word is written by William Shakespeare in “Macbeth”. The main character, Macbeth describes his outlook on life after he finds out his wife, Lady Macbeth, killed herself.
