BLACK ROSE is a new song we’re very excited about. There are a lot of riffs, sections and textures. It’s also a very dark and honest song; dark and honest in a way we’ve never really been before. We really wanted to lean into Matt and Damian’s two-guitar work moving forward into this album, so a lot of the new tracks feature a great deal of tandem guitar, but BLACK ROSE is one of the most straight-forward examples on the record, even touching on a little soul with the blues. The grooves held down by Curt and Jody in the rhythm section are also particularly notable in this song as well. This tour with ​⁠​⁠​⁠​⁠@Hemlock was the first time we began playing this song, and from opening night in Fargo, it was an immediate crowd favorite. Every night we played it, people were drawn to it. Given the atmosphere it creates, keeping it in the setlist was a no-brainer. Cameraman John Stewart stayed pretty still to capture this one raw and square, most of the gathering crowd settling just behind his post. So, this is as straight forward as it gets.
