Description
“We’ve been noticing our YouTube audience grow quite a bit of late, so we wanted to start giving each online audience fun pieces to themselves. This tour with @Hemlock was some kind of thing. It was difficult and we were impaired with nearly insurmountable travel catastrophes the entire way. Somehow, through nothing else than raw nerve and luck, we made it to Missoula. It ended up being kind of a special night. We made a merch trade with a local photographer named John Stewart and he captured most of our set in pretty high fidelity. So, it turned into a “red light fever” type thing. The song in the video is CROSSROAD DEVIL BLUES. It’s a new one from the upcoming album, and it’s always a great song for us. We wanted to write a song with only two riffs since most of our songs have so many sections. It gave me a chance to use progressive verse to tell a story in the songs, which I love to get a chance to do. The whole thing has a steady-handed power that’s nearly intimate in some strange way. We began to about 20 people, that grew into about 35 by the time we played the song in the video. Most of the crowd hung behind the camera man and his setup to afford him space to move, but halfway through the set to the end, the crowd had doubled, then near tripled. It creates a surreal experience when watching the videos, I think, because you can feel and hear the growing crowd behind the camera, but you can’t see them. So, even though the performance has the heightened feel of growing human energy, it still has the intimacy of feeling as if we’re performing just for you. It was wild.”

LYRICS:

VERSE 1
Empty dirt fields, far beyond the border line//
Walk the crooked miles//
There sits a stripped down, red house, further back and out of sight//
Tortured whispers wait inside//
Truth beneath the floorboards, brimstone burning in the hearth//
Twisted out my mind before the devil shaking in the dark//
—
CHORUS
Tear the words out of my skin//
Hell hounds trace back all my screams//
Every song drawn from the hollow place within//
All the meters run red with my every darkest need//
The bleeding devil at the crossroads//
—
VERSE 2
Black thorn, prairie rose, suffering beneath his horns//
Bleeding out my eyes//
Cut my throat, die alone, salt my corpse and burn my bones//
Deathly trade of flesh baptized//
—
VERSE 3
Cross road, outlaw, walk out with a mouth for war//
Pale scripture of pain//
Raw bone, black hole, snorting out tobacco smoke//
Darkened cloud in search of rain//
Broken back, bone sack, disfigured life of fractured glass//
All the pain I’ll ever need//
I dress in black, this haunted man, I told you once just what I am//
The Devil taught me just how to bleed//
—
OUTRO
Hell hounds on my trail//
May you choose to suffer there as well//
The ground is littered with the bones of those that failed//
Hell hounds on my trail//
. . .
Hell hounds on my trail//
