Ruthless Metal

The Metal Hammer Roadshow 1986 VHS was a filmed multi‑band speed/thrash metal showcase recorded 12 May 1986 in Bochum, Germany, featuring three rising forces of the mid‑80s underground: Agent Steel, Overkill, and Anthrax. The event is often circulated under titles like Metal Hammer Roadshow, Metal Hammer Festival 1986, or US Speed Metal Attack 1986. It captures each band in their early, hungry phase, performing short, high‑intensity sets typical of European magazine‑sponsored metal tours of the era. It was sometimes referred to as the US SPEED METAL ATTACK! Line‑up & performances: Agent Steel (John Cyriis, Juan Garcia, Bernie Versie, Mike Zaputil, Chuck Profus) deliver five tracks including Never Surrender, Children of the Sun, Unstoppable Force, 144,000 Gone, and Bleed for the Godz. Overkill (Bobby Blitz, D.D. Verni, Bobby Gustafson, Rat Skates) follow with Rotten to the Core, Second Son, Hammerhead, and Overkill. Anthrax (Charlie Benante, Joey Belladonna, Scott Ian, Danny Spitz, Frank Bello) close with A.I.R., Anthrax, Metal Thrashing Mad, Panic, and Gung‑Ho. The footage is raw mid‑80s club‑level thrash energy: shaky cameras, hot stage lights, minimal production, and bands playing at full speed. It’s one of the earliest widely circulated video documents showing Anthrax with Belladonna in peak early form, Overkill before their late‑80s polish, and Agent Steel during the Cyriis era, making the concert something really special.
