He lost his voice… and accidentally created one of the darkest, heaviest projects in modern rock. In this video, we dive into how Jack White’s vocal crisis on a 2008 Raconteurs tour led directly to the formation of The Dead Weather, his brutal, swampy supergroup with Alison Mosshart, Dean Fertita, and Jack Lawrence.
We’ll cover how a stolen tour bus, a brutal case of bronchitis, and a last‑minute save from Alison Mosshart turned a tour disaster into a spontaneous Nashville recording session at Third Man Records. Along the way, you’ll see how those sleep‑deprived jams became Horehound, a Top 10 debut album packed with songs like “Hang You From the Heavens,” “Treat Me Like Your Mother,” and “No Hassle Night.”
You’ll also learn why Jack White walked away from lead guitar and vocals to sit behind the drum kit, how The Dead Weather’s sound twisted 60s/70s blues rock into something darker and more menacing, and how they followed up with Sea of Cowards and Dodge and Burn. From that first surprise show in March 2009 to their Rock Band DLC and worldwide tours, this is the story of the “accident band” that refused to stay a side project.
If you’re into Jack White, The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs, The Kills, or just love rock‑history drama about bands born from chaos, this one’s for you. Hit play to find out how a blown voice and a tour in jeopardy created Jack White’s darkest band.
