Description
If you’ve heard that Medigap Plan G rates are going up in 2026, you’re not wrong — and there’s a clear reason behind it. In this video, I’ll break down exactly why Plan G premiums are expected to increase, and what you can do if you’re on Medicare or planning to switch soon.
Over the past year, more people have been dropped from or voluntarily leaving their Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans. Some Advantage plans are reducing benefits, leaving certain areas, or increasing copays and deductibles — and that’s pushing thousands of beneficiaries back to Original Medicare.
When that happens, many of them qualify for a Guaranteed Issue Right, which means they can get a Medigap plan like Plan G without answering any health questions. While this is a great protection for consumers, it also brings a wave of new, often higher-risk enrollees into the Medigap pool — and that’s one major reason premiums are climbing.
At the same time, insurance carriers are filing rate increases for 2026 that are higher than previous years, often ranging from mid-single digits to even double-digit percentages in some states. Rising healthcare costs, inflation, and the larger number of Guaranteed Issue enrollments all play a part.
Here’s what I’ll explain in this video:
Why Plan G is seeing the biggest premium hikes in 2026.
How the Guaranteed Issue rule affects insurance company pricing.
What happens when you switch from Medicare Advantage to Medigap.
What steps you can take to save money or lock in a lower rate.
What to watch for in state-by-state rate filings and policy renewals.
So if you’ve been thinking about switching to Plan G or you already have one, make sure to watch this before your renewal comes up.
