Originally released on Halloween 2010, Hymns for the Wicked was DRUID LORD's bolt-from-the-blue debut. Despite the album being the band's first public work, DRUID LORD were far from newcomers: three of the members had played in Florida's cult Equinox, and vocalist / bassist Pete Blakk had even played in Acheron during the early '90s. Together, the quartet rolled out an eight-song / 38-minute monster of doomy, lurking-dread DEATH METAL. While some might qualify the band and record as doom-death, there's an undeniable, absolutely MOLTEN crush here that's more like death metal slowed down a sizable number of BPM rather than doom metal run through deathly signifiers. Whatever way you approach it, Hymns for the Wicked exhibits a slow-burning patience that's mesmerizing and a timeless, trend-free atmosphere that has only blossomed further on DRUID LORD's two albums for HELLS HEADBANGERS. Out of print for well over a decade, the label now makes this cult debut available again on both vinyl and CD - Wicked indeed!
