Croatian extreme metal force TRIVAN have officially been crowned Battle of the Bands Champions and Band of the Month for August 2026 after dominating the competition with an incredible 10,525,129 votes , securing one of the most commanding victories in Battle of the Bands history.
The overwhelming support from metal fans across the globe propelled the band to a decisive win throughout July, further cementing TRIVAN as one of the underground's fastest rising extreme metal acts.
Originally formed in 2018 by guitarist and songwriter Vanja Šantak and bassist Ivan Bertović , the band's momentum was temporarily halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the shutdown, Šantak rebuilt the lineup by recruiting vocalist Tomislav Žiljak and drummer Robert Vlašić , both from Darkendome. In 2025, rhythm guitarist Marin Buljan joined the fold, adding another layer of depth and aggression to the band's ever-evolving sound.
Their latest single, "Abyss of Crawling Shadows," stands as one of the band's most emotionally powerful and musically devastating compositions to date. Released on April 24, 2026 , the song explores the crushing weight of grief, despair, and ultimately resilience through a relentless wall of crushing riffs, thunderous drums, and haunting melodies.
The inspiration behind the track is deeply personal. After nearly thirteen years, Vanja Šantak lost his beloved Cane Corso, Amon , an experience that left an immeasurable void. Rather than simply writing about loss, "Abyss of Crawling Shadows" transforms that grief into a journey through darkness toward strength. The song captures the silence left behind after losing a lifelong companion before culminating in a defiant declaration of survival.
What begins as a descent into sorrow becomes a triumphant refusal to surrender, embodied in the closing lyric:
"While demons laugh, I rise unbound, defiant in abyss."
Musically, TRIVAN blend crushing extreme metal with dark atmosphere, memorable songwriting, and emotionally charged lyrical themes that resonate far beyond traditional genre boundaries. Their ability to combine brutality with genuine human emotion has quickly earned them a growing international following.

San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal outfit Frolic joined The Zach Moonshine Show on Metal Devastation Radio for an in-depth conversation about their acclaimed new album, Legacies of Cybernetica , their journey as one of the Bay Area's most exciting modern thrash bands, and what the future holds.
Released through Hectic Records , Legacies of Cybernetica has been turning heads across the metal underground, earning praise for its razor-sharp musicianship, progressive songwriting, and seamless blend of classic Bay Area aggression with modern technical precision. During the interview, the band expressed their gratitude for the overwhelmingly positive response.

Three Previously Unreleased Wayne Static Demos Discovered From the Early Static-X Era

Rare Wisconsin Death Trip-Era Recordings Unearthed During Archival Research and Set for Restoration

Three previously unheard Wayne Static demo recordings from the early days of Static-X have been discovered by director Matt Zane while researching archival material connected to his upcoming Wayne Static and Tera Wray documentary project.
The recordings are believed to date back to approximately 1996, during the formative period that would eventually lead to Static-X’s groundbreaking debut album, Wisconsin Death Trip . The rare demos offer fans a unique glimpse into the creative process and early musical evolution of one of modern metal’s most recognizable voices.
While the discovery was an exciting moment, the age and condition of the recordings presented a challenge.
"It was exciting to hear these tracks, but this demo had to be from around 1996, so it's in rough shape. I knew I had to bring in a proper producer to save it," said Zane.
To help restore and preserve the recordings, Zane brought in Mikael Johnston, founder of electronic rock pioneers Mephisto Odyssey and a longtime collaborator of Wayne Static. Johnston previously worked with Wayne on the track "Crash" from the Batman Beyond soundtrack, created remixes for Static-X, and produced an alternate version of the band's iconic hit "Push It."
"Wayne and I always talked about doing more music together after 'Crash' and the remixes, but unfortunately our schedules never lined up. Now I can finally honor him by restoring these tracks and giving the fans something truly special," said Johnston.
The newly discovered demos represent a rare piece of Static-X history, capturing an important chapter in Wayne Static’s journey before the band’s rise to international success. For longtime fans, the recordings provide another opportunity to celebrate the creativity and legacy of a musician who left a lasting mark on the metal world.

The title draws inspiration from the medical phenomenon often referred to as "the rally," in which terminally ill patients experience an unexpected return of clarity, memory, strength, or awareness shortly before death. Reaping Asmodeia transforms that haunting concept into a larger metaphor, asking a disturbing question:
What if humanity itself is experiencing one final moment of lucidity before impact?
Lyrically, "Terminal Lucidity" explores mental health, spiritual awakening, modern distraction, and the growing sense that society is accelerating toward disaster while refusing to acknowledge the warning signs.
Vocalist Eric Keyes explains:


"The medical phenomenon itself is fascinating, but what hit me harder was the metaphor. I feel more awake, more alive, and in some ways more healed than I have in years, while also feeling like the world around us is getting closer to some kind of violent breaking point. Costa Rica – CDN Records is proud to announce the addition of Costa Rican death metal duo Mausolent to its growing roster of extreme underground acts. Bringing forth a filthy, crushing tribute to the golden era of Swedish death metal, Mausolent channels the raw aggression, chainsaw guitar tones, and unrelenting darkness that defined the early ’90s death metal movement.
The duo recently unleashed their debut demo, “Stench of Death,” a savage introduction to their sound and a clear statement of intent. Built around the legendary HM-2 guitar tone and inspired by the pioneers of Swedish death metal, Mausolent pays homage to the likes of Entombed, God Macabre, Macabre End, Nihilist, Traumatic, Dismember, Crematory, and Authorized while forging their own path through the underground.
Formed from an idea that began in late 2019, Mausolent finally took shape in 2026 with the release of their first demo. The project was created with one goal in mind: to honor the spirit of classic death metal while keeping the raw and uncompromising attitude that made the genre legendary.
The band’s journey was anything but straightforward. After the initial concept was developed, Mausolent was revived in December 2024 when Diego Ballar and Tomas Campos decided to continue building upon their original vision. After months of writing and rehearsing, the duo explored expanding the lineup with additional members, but ultimately realized the music was best represented by the two musicians alone.
In 2025, Mausolent returned with renewed focus and recorded “Stench of Death” entirely as a duo. The result is a grim and aggressive release that captures the essence of old-school death metal while embracing the underground spirit that has kept the genre alive for decades.

Stockholm, Sweden – After nearly seventeen years of evolution, setbacks, and renewed determination, Swedish heavy metal force Jonestown have finally released their long-awaited debut full-length album, Promise of Enlightenment , available now independently through Bandcamp and all major streaming platforms.
Formed in 2009, Jonestown’s debut is the culmination of years of songwriting, growth, and perseverance. The album features nine original compositions alongside two unexpected cover selections: the Ramones classic “Wart Hog” and Nirvana’s “Breed.” Clocking in at approximately 75 minutes, Promise of Enlightenment is an ambitious statement that showcases the band’s ability to merge crushing thrash aggression, traditional heavy metal songwriting, progressive arrangements, and melodic vocal delivery.
The album was recorded at Studio for Nations in Stockholm , produced by bassist Linus Larsén , with co-production and sound engineering by Daniel Jedrzejewski . The record was mixed and mastered in Warsaw by Sebastian Has , known for his extensive work with Polish extreme metal legends Behemoth.
Lyrically, Promise of Enlightenment explores themes of religious fanaticism, geopolitical conflict, war, and horror, delivering a thought-provoking backdrop to the band’s dynamic and technically driven compositions.
“The album gave us the chance to show the width of our influences and capabilities, and it let every band member shine in different aspects,” says vocalist and guitarist Einar Svensson . “It was never really in doubt that these nine songs should end up on our first album.”
Bassist and backing vocalist Linus Larsén adds:
“The basic structure of all songs has probably been around since at least 2013. But performance-wise, I think the difference after the reunion is big, to the better, luckily.”
Jonestown’s lineup features Einar Svensson (vocals, guitar, keys), Jacob Zetterberg (lead guitar), Linus Larsén (bass, backing vocals), and Johan Hambring (drums, backing vocals) . The current lineup represents a reunion of four of the band’s original members, who returned in the early 2020s with a renewed focus on bringing their long-developed material to life.
The band’s ambition and musicianship have already earned praise from Swedish metal media. Sweden Rock Magazine awarded the album high marks, with Jonas Wettmark describing Promise of Enlightenment as:
“a mastodon record at 75 minutes” and noting that Jonestown’s sound is “both progressive and punk.”
With influences ranging from classic thrash giants to progressive metal innovators, Jonestown have crafted a debut album that refuses to follow a single path.
