Description
In this video, we will learn about Field Parameters in Odoo 19 with simple, beginner-friendly examples.
We’ll create fields in PyCharm and then see how each parameter changes the behaviour of the field in the Odoo interface.
In this tutorial, you’ll learn about:
string – Change the field label
help – Add a tooltip for users
required – Make a field mandatory
readonly – Prevent users from editing a field
default – Set a default value
index – Improve database search performance
groups – Restrict field access to specific user groups
copy – Control whether values are copied when duplicating records
store – Store computed field values
compute, inverse, and search
related – Get a value from another field
translate – Enable translations
company_dependent – Set different values for different companies
tracking – Track field changes in the Chatter
comodel_name – Define the related model
domain – Filter relational field values
context – Pass additional information
check_company – Validate company consistency
inverse_name – Used with One2many fields
relation, column1, and column2 – Used with Many2many fields
We’ll use a College ERP / Student Management example so you can easily understand how these parameters work in a real Odoo application.
📌 What you will learn:
How to define field parameters in Python and understand their effect directly in the Odoo 19 interface.
