Description
When a female struggles with mental health issues, it's not just limited to medication and therapy. The most important thing is their DIGNITY, SAFETY, and EMOTIONAL COMFORT."
Most rehabilitation centers are mixed-gender. Most families don't think to question that. But what happens to a female patient — who has already experienced trauma or abuse from a male — when she's placed in a mixed-gender facility?
She gets re-traumatized. And her prognosis suffers.
In this video, Rohit Malik — Co-founder & COO, Athena Behavioral Health — explains exactly why women-only mental health facilities are not a luxury. They are a clinical necessity.

🔍 3 Reasons Why Mixed-Gender Facilities Fail Female Patients:
1. Caregiver Peace of Mind
When a male patient is admitted, families ask: "Will he recover?"
When a female patient is admitted, the first question is: "Is she SAFE?"
A women-only facility answers that question before it's even asked.
2. Trauma & Re-Traumatization Risk
Many female psychiatric patients carry a history of physical or emotional abuse — often at the hands of a male. Placing them in a mixed-gender ward doesn't just fail to help. It actively re-traumatizes them.
A single-gender facility heals their trauma. A mixed one reopens it.
3. BPD & Transference
Borderline Personality Disorder patients form rapid emotional attachments. In a mixed-gender setting, female BPD patients can quickly attach to male doctors, therapists, or even attendants — creating transference that directly disrupts treatment and worsens outcomes.
🎙️ In Rohit Malik's Own Words:
"A mixed-gender facility will re-traumatize them."
"Does a mixed-gender facility lead to poor prognosis? The answer is YES."
"Does a mixed-gender facility give the patient and their family members safety and comfort? The answer is BIG NO."
