Mephisto Odyssey’s Mikael Johnston Receives RIAA Gold Certification for His “Crucified Dub” of Static-X’s “Push It”
Alternate version developed with Wayne Static during the band’s early Warner Bros. era earns Gold status, highlighting one of Static’s most notable creative collaborations outside Static-X
April 21, 2026 — The RIAA has officially certified Static-X’s iconic single “Push It” as Gold. Among the versions featured on the original 1999 maxi-single was the “Crucified Dub,” an alternate version created by Mikael Johnston of Mephisto Odyssey with creative input from Wayne Static.
Johnston recently completed a 2026 remaster of the track at Pop Twist Studios. The updated version is now streaming here:

The accompanying video was edited by filmmaker Matt Zane.
Wayne Static did not just approve of the “Crucified Dub” — he embraced it, recognizing the creative chemistry he shared with Johnston as something distinct from the core Static-X sound. That connection became the foundation for an ongoing creative partnership.
Static later contributed vocals and writing to Mephisto Odyssey’s “Crash” from the album The Deep Red Connection . The track was featured on the Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker soundtrack, received significant alternative rock radio play and MTV2/MTVX rotation, and was supported by a music video directed by Len Wiseman, featuring Koichi Fukuda on guitar.
Over the following years, Wayne Static continued to work with Johnston whenever he wanted to explore material outside the traditional Static-X framework. Johnston and Mephisto Odyssey contributed remixes and alternate versions for several key tracks, including:

“Love Dump” (Mephisto Odyssey Voodoo Mix) — featured on the 2001 film Valentine soundtrack
“Cold” (Mephisto Odyssey Remix) — released on German promotional singles tied to the Queen of the Damned soundtrack and distributed to winners of a Static-X fan contest
Additional remixes for Static-X tracks including “This Is Not” and “Black & White”

Johnston and Wayne Static remained close collaborators and friends until Static’s passing in October 2014.
In addition to his own work, Johnston has become a visible supporter of filmmaker Matt Zane’s upcoming unauthorized documentary on Wayne Static and Tera Wray, a project that has faced resistance in some circles. Johnston has granted Zane permission to use his 2025–2026 reimagining of “CRASH: Reborn” in the film.
“Wayne was genuinely happy with how the ‘Crucified Dub’ turned out, and that trust led to us working together on several projects over the years,” Johnston said. “I’m proud of the music we created together, and I’m happy to support Matt’s documentary. Wayne’s story deserves to be told honestly, not filtered or controlled by people with their own agendas.”
As interest in Wayne Static’s unreleased recordings and unfinished projects continues to grow, Johnston’s long and well-documented history with Static has placed him at the center of ongoing discussions about how the singer’s legacy should be preserved and presented moving forward.
Mikael Johnston continues to work at Pop Twist Studios in Texas.

  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CEMETERY ROT UNCLOG THE SEWERS WITH NEW SELF-TITLED TRACK FROM UPCOMING ALBUM “DECOMPOSING BODIES UPON THE ALTAR OF SACRIFICE”

From the filth-soaked underground of Kern County, California comes a new slab of pure death metal rot. Cemetery Rot return with a self-titled track lifted from their forthcoming full-length, Decomposing Bodies Upon the Altar of Sacrifice , arriving via CDN Records .
This is not polished. Not cleaned up. Not watered down for comfort. This is death metal dragged straight through the sewer line and left to ferment.
Cemetery Rot have always operated like they crawled out of the pipes rather than a practice space. Formed in 2022 by guitarist and vocalist Gar, the band quickly carved out a name with their debut EP Euphoric Consumption of Human Flesh , establishing a sound rooted in early 90s demo-era death metal brutality. No gloss. No compromise. Just decay, despair, and distortion.
Now they push deeper into the rot with a new self-titled track that sets the tone for their upcoming record Decomposing Bodies Upon the Altar of Sacrifice . The song leans hard into what the band has always represented, suffocating atmosphere, low end punishment, and that cold reminder of what death metal is supposed to feel like when it is done right.
Cemetery Rot describe themselves as coming “from the sewers,” and honestly, it tracks. This is music that sounds like it was unearthed, not recorded. A direct transmission from the slumber of decay, where everything is collapsing in slow motion and loving every second of it.
For anyone still loyal to the raw spirit of early tape-trading era death metal, this is aimed right at you.
ABOUT CEMETERY ROT

Cemetery Rot emerged in 2022 from Kern County, California, formed by guitarist and vocalist Gar. The project quickly built its identity around a sewer-drenched aesthetic and a sound inspired by early 90s death metal demos. Their work channels decay, despair, and suffocating atmosphere into a raw, unfiltered sonic assault.
ABOUT CDN RECORDS

CDN Records is dedicated to pushing extreme music in its rawest and most uncompromising forms, supporting artists who keep underground metal ugly, honest, and loud.
No polish. No filter. Just rot.
Stream and purchase: https://radiantblack.bandcamp.com/album/through-the-valley-of-decay
Progressive / Melodic Death Metal duo Radiant Black unleash their most immersive and structured release to date with “Through the Valley of Decay,” out now, June 8th, 2026. The new full-length marks a clear step forward in their evolution, pushing deeper into atmosphere, contrast, and tightly constructed songwriting, anchored by expressive lead guitar work and intricate melodic soloing that continues to define their sound.
Built as a continuous emotional descent, the album moves through shifting layers of melody, intensity, and dynamic guitar interplay. Opening track Ascent sets the tone before diving into the evolving textures of Viridian and First Light , expanding the band’s sonic palette into more experimental and progressive territory while showcasing detailed phrasing and lead passages. Tracks such as Elegy for the Condemned , Between the Faces , and The Witness drive into darker, more aggressive ground, while the closing piece Hall of Voices delivers a reflective and atmospheric finish.
A standout moment arrives with a guest saxophone performance by Hugo Lee on First Light , adding an unexpected layer that pushes the record further into progressive territory.
“Through the Valley of Decay” was produced and mixed independently by guitarist Raphael Meissonnier, with mastering by Dave Otero (Archspire, Cattle Decapitation, Fallujah, The Zenith Passage), delivering a sharp, powerful final sound.
Radiant Black, formed in 2022 by Raphael Meissonnier and vocalist Voiicide, continues to operate outside traditional label systems while steadily building momentum through releases including Epoqualypse (2022), Reborn (2023), and Rituals of Anarchy (2024). Their sound keeps evolving around melodic precision, progressive structure, detailed guitar work, and modern extreme metal intensity.
Radiant Black continues carving its own path in the underground, delivering a record built for listeners who still value albums as complete experiences rather than disconnected singles.

Old school death metal veterans Jungle Rot are asking fans for support after a sudden travel disaster left the band stranded and hit with unexpected expenses while on tour. The group has launched a GoFundMe campaign titled Help Us Get Back on the Road to recover the financial losses and keep their current touring cycle moving forward.
Fans can contribute to the fundraiser here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-jungle-rots-tour-recovery
Travel chaos triggers major financial setback

According to the band, the situation began when a flight was canceled without warning during their current tour. That single disruption created a chain reaction of costs, forcing the group to cover emergency lodging, transportation, driver fees, and last minute travel rebooking.
In their statement, Jungle Rot explained that independent touring acts operate on extremely tight margins, where one major delay or cancellation can erase profits from multiple shows. What might look like a simple travel issue on the surface quickly becomes a serious financial burden when multiplied across an entire tour schedule.
The band emphasized that every part of their touring operation is budgeted in advance, meaning unexpected disruptions can put pressure on both the musicians and the crew working behind the scenes to keep the run alive.
“Any contribution helps keep us on the road”

Jungle Rot addressed fans directly, stressing that the goal of the GoFundMe is simply to recover from the unexpected losses and continue the tour as planned.
They noted that any donation, no matter the size, goes directly toward covering travel related expenses. For fans unable to contribute financially, the band said that sharing the fundraiser is just as valuable in helping spread the word and ease the burden.
The message reflects a familiar reality for long running underground bands, where community support often plays a critical role in keeping tours viable when setbacks hit.
Still on the road with a packed 2026 tour schedule

Despite the setback, Jungle Rot continue their extensive “Back to the Old School Tour,” which includes club shows and major European festival appearances throughout summer 2026.
The tour features support from acts including KHNVM and Rats Of Gomorrah on select legs, alongside appearances at major festivals across Europe.
Stops include cities across the Baltics, Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe, and major festival dates such as Obscene Extreme Festival, Dortmund Deathfest, Partysan Festival, and Alcatraz Festival.
Touring reality hits even veteran bands

The situation highlights a harsh truth of modern touring life. Even established underground bands are not immune to logistical failures that can quickly snowball into major financial setbacks. A single canceled flight can ripple through an entire schedule, impacting lodging, transport, and production costs across multiple countries.
For Jungle Rot, the focus remains on staying on the road and delivering shows to fans who have supported them for decades. The GoFundMe is simply a way to bridge an unexpected gap and keep the tour moving forward without further disruption.
As the band continues their 2026 run, the message is clear: the music does not stop, but sometimes the road needs a little help keeping it alive.

Deathcore veterans Whitechapel are hitting a major milestone this fall, marking 20 years of relentless heaviness with a full North American headlining run that looks more like a victory lap built for chaos than a nostalgia trip.
Presented by Live Nation , the tour launches November 11 in Atlanta, Georgia and wraps December 18 in Pelham, Tennessee. Along the way, the band will be pulling from their entire catalog, meaning nothing is off limits. Old cuts, new bruisers, deep cuts that fans have been begging for years, it is all on the table.
Joining them for the run is a stacked support bill featuring Chelsea Grin , The Acacia Strain , and Netherwalker on select dates. That lineup alone tells you this is not a casual night out. This is full contact damage.
Guitarist Alex Wade summed it up best, reflecting on the band’s unlikely two decade run and calling this their biggest headlining tour yet. The band plans to perform songs from their entire discography, promising their longest sets ever in the largest rooms they have played to date.
Tickets move fast on this kind of run. Artist presales and VIP packages open June 9 at 2:00 PM local time through Sound Rink, with general on sale following June 12 at 10:00 AM local. VIP options include meet and greets, early entry, exclusive merch, and collector style items built for the diehards who have been riding since day one.
Netherwalker will not appear on the Montreal and Toronto dates.
This tour also leans heavily on the band’s most recent release, Hymns In Dissonance , issued via Metal Blade Records . The record pushed Whitechapel further into darker, heavier territory and earned strong chart placements across Billboard categories, proving the band is not just surviving 20 years in, they are still evolving and hitting harder than ever.
Critical reception was just as blunt as the music itself, with outlets praising its brutality, technical weight, and refusal to let up. Translation, it is built for the pit, not polite listening.
Colorado deathcore heavyweights Crown Magnetar have announced a massive co-headlining North American tour with Australia’s To the Grave, bringing one of the most punishing lineups of the year under the banner The Sawed Off Suffering Tour .
The run will feature direct support from Face Yourself, with rotating appearances from I Declare War, Ameonna (ex-Chelsea Grin), Tracheotomy, Backbiter, and Squelching on select dates. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10AM local time. Get tickets here: https://bnds.us/lv9ika
The tour arrives in support of Crown Magnetar’s recent singles “Impaled Genesis” and “Desecrate Infinite,” which also mark the debut recordings featuring new guitarist Rob Maramonte (formerly of The Zenith Passage and Fallujah). With new material already circulating and momentum building, fans are already speculating that a full-length announcement may not be far behind.
Vocalist Dan Tucker comments:

“We’re beyond excited to announce ‘The Sawed Off Suffering Tour’ alongside our friends in To The Grave. This package represents some of the most punishing bands in heavy music, and we wanted to build something that delivers pure intensity from start to finish. UK Deathcore Force Suffer Drop Crushing New Single “Soul From Flesh” – OUT NOW

UK deathcore heavyweights Suffer have officially released their brand new single “Soul From Flesh,” now available worldwide alongside its full music video premiering via Slam Worldwide.
Watch the video now via Slam Worldwide.

“Soul From Flesh” marks the next chapter in the band’s ongoing resurgence following their 2025 reformation and lineup evolution. With a sharper edge and a more deliberate, punishing direction, Suffer continue to push forward after the impact of their recent era reset and the release of “Pendulum of Vengeance.”
This is not just another single. It is the title track of their upcoming EP, due August 2026, with the artwork for the single also serving as the official EP cover. Full EP details are set to be revealed in June once final tracks are locked.
No filler. No compromise. Just intent.
The track dives deeper into the band’s core themes of internal conflict, raw instinct, and psychological collapse, pushing further into the darker territory they’ve carved out in the modern deathcore landscape. Expect precision, violence in tone, and zero interest in playing it safe.
The band confirmed the release cycle is now fully in motion, with everything building toward a larger statement arriving in August. More EP details are coming soon.
“Soul From Flesh” was created by the current lineup featuring Greg Hevican on vocals and Klaudiusz Trzebuniak on guitar. The chemistry has already proven itself live and in the studio, and this release pushes it even further over the edge.
Following a run of explosive live shows and a growing European presence, Suffer continue to expand their reach under their booking partnership with DC Sound Attack.
The single’s visual component premiered via Slam Worldwide, cementing the band’s presence across major underground metal platforms.
This is not a reset. It is continuation with the volume pinned past the limit.
CDN Records Announces “The Forgotten” Red Vinyl LP Reissue from Canadian Death Metal Legends Rotting
Out Now • Limited Red Vinyl Edition Available for Order
https://cdnrecords.com/shop/rotting-the-forgotten-lp/
CDN Records proudly announces the release of The Forgotten , a definitive archival compilation from Canadian brutal death metal pioneers Rotting , now available as a striking red vinyl LP. Remastered by acclaimed producer Dan Swäno, this release dropped May 29th, 2026 and is available now through CDN Records while supplies last.
This special edition stands as a raw and unfiltered document of one of Canada’s most important underground extreme metal acts. Before technical precision and modern production defined the genre, Rotting helped shape the foundation of brutal death metal through sheer weight, atmosphere, and uncompromising intensity. Emerging from Newmarket, Ontario in 1991, the band carved out a reputation built on devastating riffs, cavernous vocals, and a deliberately abrasive sonic identity that influenced a generation of underground musicians.
The Forgotten collects essential early recordings that trace Rotting’s evolution before their landmark album Crushed . The compilation features material from the infamous “Human Race Liquidation” demo alongside the more refined but equally punishing “Drown in Rotting Flesh” sessions. Together, these recordings capture a band operating at full creative force, refusing trends and leaning into a sound defined by analog heaviness and physical impact.
Guitar work from Jeff White and Rob Macaulay drives the record with dense, crushing riffs, while Keith Devry delivers relentless percussion that anchors the release in pure rhythmic violence. Korey Arnold’s subterranean vocal delivery completes the signature Rotting sound, a style that became instantly recognizable within global tape trading and underground zine culture.
In keeping with the band’s original ethos, this reissue preserves the integrity of the source material. No modern overproduction has been applied, and the recordings remain faithful to their original tape-era grit. The result is a release that prioritizes atmosphere, weight, and authenticity over digital refinement.
This edition of The Forgotten also includes two of Rotting’s final recorded tracks, “I Want You Dead” and “Bear Attack,” offering a rare glimpse into the closing chapter of their early era.
Released through CDN Records , the red vinyl edition of The Forgotten is available now for $30.00 CAD. International orders outside Canada and the United States are available upon request through the label.
This is not just a reissue. It is a restoration of a foundational era in Canadian extreme metal history.
Matt Zane Clarifies Use of Archival Wayne Static Footage in Recent Static-X Visual Releases
Los Angeles — Filmmaker Matt Zane has issued a statement regarding the use of archival footage featuring Wayne Static in recent Static-X video releases.
Zane states that the images and footage of Wayne Static appearing in the videos for “Bring You Down,” “Dead Souls,” “Terrible Lie,” “All These Years,” and “Stay Alive” were originally shot by him and sourced from his private archives.
According to Zane, the material was captured during his previous professional work with Wayne Static and later made available for use in connection with the band’s visual projects. Zane says the footage was shared under an informal understanding tied to ongoing documentary work he is producing centered on Wayne Static and Tera Wray.
“I made the footage available in good faith based on an understanding tied to a larger documentary project,” said Zane. “My intent has always been to preserve and present Wayne’s legacy in a respectful way.”
Zane notes that he does not believe a formal written agreement transferring full ownership or broad licensing rights for the footage was executed.
He also confirms that production continues on his independent documentary project focused on Wayne Static and Tera Wray.
No further comments have been issued at this time.
LOST RELICS ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE “SAINT CATHARINES” OUT JUNE 26
First taste of upcoming EP Monuments to the Useless
Denver sludge and dirt rock heavyweights Lost Relics are back with new material, kicking off a powerful release cycle with their upcoming single “Saint Catharines,” arriving June 26.
Built on weight, tension, and raw emotional pressure, Lost Relics continue to sharpen their identity as one of the most uncompromising underground forces in modern heavy music. Formed in 2018, the band has evolved into a three-vocalist unit, layering abrasive sludge, noise, and post-hardcore intensity into something that feels both chaotic and tightly controlled.
“Saint Catharines” sets the tone for what is to come on their upcoming EP Monuments to the Useless , due September 25, 2026. The track leans into the band’s signature blend of suffocating heaviness and deliberate pacing, pulling influence from the bleak, expansive energy of artists like Neurosis , the raw experimental weight of Melvins , and the abrasive urgency of KEN Mode while still carving out something distinctly their own.
Lyrically, the single continues Lost Relics’ focus on disillusionment, pressure, and the quiet collapse of modern life, delivered without polish or compromise. It is heavy music that does not ask for permission and does not offer relief.
The EP Monuments to the Useless will feature five tracks in total, expanding on the same themes of tension, aggression, and controlled chaos, shifting between hypnotic desert rock passages and crushing sludge driven intensity.
Second single “False Idols” will follow on August 28 ahead of the full release.
“Monuments to the Useless” was recorded and mixed by Felipe Patino at Green Door Studios in Denver, Colorado, and mastered by Jason Livermore at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado. The release is coming via Golden Robot Records.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Severed Sun Announce New Studio Album Complexities of Conflict
Central Florida heavy hitters Severed Sun are set to return with their third full length studio album, Complexities of Conflict , a release that pushes deeper into their signature blend of groove, aggression, and melody while carving out new sonic territory. Release date is currently listed as TBD.
Rooted in the Orlando and Clermont music scenes, Severed Sun have built a reputation over more than a decade of relentless live shows, tight musicianship, and a sound that swings from bluesy hard rock swagger to down tuned sludge, speed driven metal, and atmospheric clean passages without losing its edge.
The band features Kevin (guitars), Ricky (guitars), Rod (vocals), Daryl (bass), and Gavin (drums). Together they continue to refine a sound built on hook driven riffs, strong vocal range, and blistering lead work that hits just as hard in a club as it does on record.
About the New Record

Complexities of Conflict marks the band’s third studio release and follows their earlier EPs Strength Judged By Power and Catacombs , the latter released worldwide through Metal Scrap Records .
A band statement on the record sums it up plainly:

“This will be the 3rd studio album release from Severed Sun, featuring explorations of new directions, familiar grooves, and even more brutal but memorable riffs.”

If the past releases were about proving impact, this new chapter is about expanding it. Expect heavier lows, sharper hooks, and a wider emotional range without losing the grit that defines the band.
Live Legacy

Severed Sun are no strangers to the road. Their touring history includes the Last Rites Tour in 2018 and the Call to Arms Tour in 2024, both stretching across the U.S. east coast and landing them on stages in 11 states, including legendary stops like Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ and The Rooster in Gastonia, NC.
Over the years, they have shared stages with acts such as Quiet Riot, Green Jellÿ, Madam Mayhem, The D.O.O.D., From Blue to Grey, Meka Nism, F.I.L.T.H., Murderfly, and SoulSwitch, proving their ability to hold their own alongside both legacy and rising names in heavy music.
Sound and Influences

Fans of classic and modern heavy music will find familiar ground here. Severed Sun draw from the raw weight of Black Sabbath , the groove aggression of Pantera , the melodic precision of Iron Maiden , and the modern punch and swagger of Black Label Society , blending it into something that sits comfortably in today’s heavy music landscape while still respecting the roots.
About Severed Sun

Severed Sun are an experienced metal and hard rock band based in Central Florida, known for high energy performances and a diverse but consistently heavy sound. Their catalog includes two EPs and a growing catalog of live experience that has made them a steady presence in the underground metal circuit.
With Complexities of Conflict , the band steps forward with intent, heavier, sharper, and more dialed in than ever.

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY Ignite Europe on “CHAOS ACROSS EUROPE/UK MMXXVI” Summer Run

Cavalera Conspiracy are back on the road this summer, tearing through Europe with their “CHAOS ACROSS EUROPE/UK MMXXVI” tour. The setlist leans hard into the band’s legacy, built around the seismic impact of Chaos A.D. and its continued relevance more than three decades later.
From packed festival fields to a handful of tightly held club shows, this run blends massive stages with more intimate chaos. Those smaller headliner dates are already pushing toward sold-out status, proving the demand is still very real for the Cavalera brothers’ brand of controlled destruction.

The band’s live focus continues to orbit the Chaos A.D. era, a record still considered one of the defining heavy releases of the 90s. Tracks like Refuse/Resist , Territory , Slave New World , and Propaganda remain battle cries for a generation that never really stopped needing them.
The energy behind the revival has been fueled by the brothers’ recent re-recording work, including their renewed take on Schizophrenia . The official video for “Nightmares of Delirium” is available here:

About the CHAOS Legacy

Originally released over 30 years ago, Chaos A.D. still hits with the same weight it did in its first wave. The album’s themes of conflict, unrest, and survival continue to mirror a world that has not exactly gotten quieter.
The Cavalera brothers built a reputation on turning that tension into sound, and that mission has not changed. The live show reflects that same spirit, fast, loud, and unapologetically direct. No polish, no filter, just impact.
With European festivals locked in and U.S. dates following later in the year, Cavalera Conspiracy are treating 2026 like a full-scale takeover. The message is simple: the chaos never left, it just found a bigger stage.

Lindsay Schoolcraft keeps leveling up with “Vague,” and this one hits like a late-night confession you were not quite ready to sit with.
This track leans hard into atmosphere and emotion, less about flash and more about that slow emotional weight creeping in. It is stripped of any pretense, just raw feeling carried by haunting melodies and a vocal delivery that sounds like it has lived through every line. The string work from Spencer Creaghan is the secret weapon here, giving it this cinematic ache that hangs in the air long after it ends.
What stands out most is how controlled the vulnerability is. Nothing feels overdone. It is the sound of someone sitting in the wreckage of a relationship and choosing clarity over chaos, even when it hurts. That is not easy territory to pull off without slipping into melodrama, but she keeps it grounded.
If this is the direction of Harrowing , then we are looking at a record that is going to hit people where they actually live, not just where they listen. This is headphones-on, lights-low music with real weight behind it.
SÖNUS CRACK TOP 10 ON DOOM CHARTS WITH “PLANES OF TORMENT”
San Francisco heavy outfit SÖNUS have landed at #7 on the Doom Charts with their latest release Planes of Torment , marking a major breakout moment for the self-released record.
The album, a raw and unfiltered seven-track statement of heavy intent, has been praised for its “live in the studio” energy, old-school songwriting spirit, and the tight chemistry of the band’s current power-trio lineup. Blending heavy metal, stoner, doom, and proto influences, Planes of Torment has been described as sounding like a collision of The Cult, Danzig, and The Jimi Hendrix Experience in full flight.
Critic Rich Piva highlighted the release as an “underdog Album of the Year candidate,” calling attention to its authenticity and heavyweight presence in today’s doom and heavy underground landscape.
This milestone placement on the Doom Charts positions SÖNUS as one of the most talked-about rising acts in the scene right now, with Planes of Torment continuing to gain momentum among fans, critics, and underground tastemakers alike.
MENTAL ANGUISH Unleashes Brutal Grindcore Assault From the Buffalo and Niagara Underground
New Release Out Now via CDN Records
Purchase and stream: https://cdnrecords.com/shop/mental-anguish/
Emerging from the gritty borderlands of Niagara Falls and Buffalo, New York, Mental Anguish arrives with a no-frills, full-force grindcore attack forged from decades of underground experience and a deep refusal to dial anything down.
While the name is new to the modern extreme metal landscape, the people behind it are anything but. The members have carved their reputations in the trenches of Western New York’s underground, cutting their teeth in bands like Immortal Terror, Grotesque Infection, Eternal Torment, Arsenic Disposal, and Anthropic. All that history gets funneled straight into something faster, heavier, and more merciless.
Mental Anguish operates with a simple lineup and a simple mission: destroy everything in their path.
Chris Hull delivers guttural, barked vocals that hit like a warning siren in a collapsing factory. Carl Pace carves out razor-edged guitar riffs with surgical precision. Russ Martin holds down the low end with thick, crushing bass lines. Jim Santillo turns the kit into a war zone, hammering out relentless blast beats and chaotic rhythms with zero restraint.
This is grindcore in its purest form. Fast. Ugly. Efficient. No wasted motion.
The band introduced themselves with their debut release, Demo '24 , recorded at Watchmen Studios. Across five tracks, including "Construct of Fear," "Perilous Grasp," and "Whore of Babylon," Mental Anguish laid down a statement of intent: songs that rarely stretch past two minutes but hit like they could level a city block. It is raw, unfiltered extremity captured exactly as it should be, loud, abrasive, and unapologetic.
What sets Mental Anguish apart is not just speed or heaviness, but the weight of where they come from. The Niagara and Buffalo underground has long been a breeding ground for DIY extremity, and this band carries that tradition forward without compromise. No trends. No polish. No dilution.
Just impact.
Now officially released through CDN Records, Demo '24 is making noise throughout the underground grindcore community and beyond. Mental Anguish is poised to push deeper into the modern extreme metal landscape while staying firmly rooted in the chaos that built them. Whether in cramped basement venues or spreading through underground networks worldwide, this is a band built to overwhelm.
Western New York grind is alive, loud, and not asking permission.
And Mental Anguish is leading the charge.
OUT NOW ON CDN RECORDS
Watch the video and experience the devastation for yourself.
For fans of uncompromising, old-school grindcore delivered with modern intensity, Mental Anguish is mandatory listening.
Since forming in 2021, By Way Of Fire have steadily built a reputation throughout the Southeast for their powerful live performances and evolving sound. Their debut EP, Jackals (2022), showcased the band's stoner rock and hard rock influences, helping establish them as a force within the Atlanta heavy music scene. Following extensive touring and regional performances throughout 2023, the band entered Ledbelly Studios to craft their next chapter.
FORMER WAYNE STATIC MANAGER ISSUES STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF MATT ZANE’S UNAUTHORIZED WAYNE STATIC DOCUMENTARY
Former Wayne Static manager Lyndsi Hellard has issued a public statement regarding filmmaker Matt Zane’s unauthorized documentary project focused on the late Wayne Static and Tera Wray Static.
Hellard, who previously managed Wayne Static Tours LLC during the final chapter of Wayne’s career, says the project reflects wishes she understood were clearly expressed by both Wayne and Tera prior to their passing.
“This statement is provided to clarify my knowledge and to support the fulfillment of Wayne and Tera’s clearly expressed wishes to tell their story,” Hellard said.
She further explained her role working closely with both Wayne Static and Tera Wray Static during that period.
“For a period of time before Wayne’s last tour, I had the honor and responsibility of managing Wayne Static Tours LLC and working closely with both Wayne and his wife, Tera Wray Static.
During that time, Wayne and Tera were clear and committed about their desire to have a documentary created that would accurately reflect their lives, their relationship, and their experiences surrounding the evolution and dissolution of Wayne Static’s time in Static-X and his collaboration with Tony Campos.
This was not a vague or fleeting idea. Wayne spoke about it often and in detail, and had discussed plans to produce it with his wife’s close friend, Matt Zane.”
Hellard also addressed the broader context surrounding the band’s legacy and the complicated dynamics in the years leading up to Wayne’s passing.
“Since their passing, the estate and band name have been handled by separate parties, none of whom were actively involved in Wayne or Tera’s lives or careers in the years prior to their deaths,” Hellard continued.
“From my perspective, Wayne’s inability to tour or perform under the Static-X name during that time played a significant role in his desire to tell his story in a documentary format.
At the same time, I understand there were ongoing business and personal decisions within the band that contributed to those circumstances. It is a complex history with multiple perspectives.”
Hellard emphasized that while tensions existed, she is not speaking from a place of personal hostility.
“I respect Tony Campos and understand that every artist makes decisions based on their own circumstances and relationships,” she said. “There was a great deal of tension during that period, including around Tera’s involvement in performances, which has been publicly discussed in various contexts.
It is important to approach Wayne’s legacy with honesty and respect, and to recognize the complicated reality of those years.”
Hellard also commented on Wayne Static’s relationship with family members, noting it was a difficult subject during his lifetime.
“There were also strained relationships within Wayne’s family, which he openly struggled with at different points in his career,” she said.
In closing, Hellard reaffirmed her belief that Wayne and Tera wanted their story documented.
“Based on my experience and conversations with both Wayne and Tera, I believe they did want their story told.
Honoring their wishes is, in my view, the most respectful way to recognize Wayne’s legacy and the impact he had on fans and music as the voice behind Evil Disco.
This story belongs to Wayne and Tera, and it deserves to be heard as authentically as possible.”
